This curious object - in the shape of a four-legged animal carrying a small bottle contained in a glass saddle-basket - is typical of items made by the master glassblowers of the eastern Mediterranean under the Abbasid dynasty. Although small in size, a number of different techniques have been used in its production. The bright colors and intertwined glass ribbons enhance its highly decorative character.
